PlayStation fans always expect top-quality projects from Sony’s internal studios. The blockbuster titles that drive console sales require years of development. Amid rumors, leaks, and official announcements, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide to all current PlayStation Studios projects.
Let’s take a look at what tricks Sony has up its sleeve and what to expect from its flagship teams in the coming years.
The Titans of Story and Action: Naughty Dog and Santa Monica
These studios have traditionally set the standard for quality across the entire industry. Their current portfolio of projects looks incredibly intriguing.
- Santa Monica Studio (God of War series) The team is hard at work on several AAA hits at once. First, there’s a mysterious new project from Cory Barlog, set in the God of War universe. Second, the next installment in Kratos’s adventures is already in the works at the studio. And the real treat for fans will be God of War: Trilogy Remake—the return of the classic Greek saga with modern technology.

- Naughty Dog (Uncharted, The Last of Us), the leading masters of cinematic games, are preparing a new sci-fi hit—Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. In addition, another unannounced project is in development, and it is not being led by Neil Druckmann, which offers hope for a fresh creative approach.

Masters of Open Worlds: Insomniac, Sucker Punch, and Bend
The teams responsible for keeping us immersed in virtual worlds for hours on end.
- Insomniac Games (Spider-Man, Ratchet & Clank) Sony’s most prolific studio continues to expand its superhero universe. The main focus right now is on the dark Marvel’s Wolverine and the massive Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. Also, according to persistent rumors, the team is working on a standalone spin-off—Marvel’s Venom.

- Bend Studio (Days Gone) The creators of “Life After” are working on a brand-new AAA title for consoles. Although this is a new intellectual property, fans around the world continue to keep their fingers crossed, hoping to see the spirit—or at least the mechanics—worthy of the canceled Days Gone 2.

- Sucker Punch Productions (Ghost of Tsushima, inFAMOUS) There is no news yet about the studio’s new projects. This makes sense: the team recently released the stunning Ghost of Yōtei, which took a full five years to create. Right now, the developers are taking a well-deserved break and working on patches.

🔫 Shooters, Online Games, and Racing: Expanding Horizons
Sony is actively investing in game services and competitive multiplayer, entrusting these tasks to both established and new teams.
- Bungie (Halo, Destiny) The creators of the cult shooter series are working on an unannounced project. Insiders are almost certain that this is a full-fledged Destiny 3, designed to reignite interest in the franchise.

- Haven Studios’ Jade Raymond team is developing the ambitious online shooter Fairgame$. However, given the intense competition in the genre, there are concerns online that the project may face difficulties or fail to make it to release at all.

- Team LFG, a studio comprised of Bungie veterans, is developing a competitive live-service action game. Based on leaks, we can expect an exciting take on Super Smash Bros. featuring PlayStation characters.

- Polyphony Digital Everything here is stable and predictable—the masters of racing simulators are revving their engines in earnest for the next installment of Gran Turismo.
Experiments and Innovations
Studios responsible for innovative gameplay and new technologies.
- Housemarque (Returnal) The creators of the hardcore game Returnal are working on a new AAA project in its early stages (known from leaks as SAROS). We expect their signature intense gameplay and stunning particle effects.
- Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet, Dreams) The British dreamers have moved away from the “game-builder” concept and switched to developing a completely new project in the Live-Service format.

- Firesprite This British studio has two new projects up its sleeve. The main intrigue is that one of them could turn out to be the long-awaited sequel to the horror game Until Dawn.
Let’s summarize
The PlayStation Studios lineup looks impressive. Sony is clearly trying to strike a balance between classic single-player blockbusters (Santa Monica, Naughty Dog) and efforts to establish itself in the game-as-a-service market (Bungie, Team LFG). All we can do is be patient and wait for the official showcases.
