The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament

This story quest will introduce you to Gladwin Moon, the caretaker of Hogwarts. During the quest, you will learn the Alohomora spell and set off in search of mysterious half-visible statues.

Meeting with the caretaker

Gladwin Moon is waiting for you near the Grand Staircase in the Reception Hall. The custodian will demonstrate the curious property of the Half-Visible statue—its appearance changes when night falls. Wait for the time of day to change and take the Half-Visible Moon from its pedestal.

After that, Gladwin leads you to a locked door and gives you a new assignment: to find two more statues. The first is hidden in the Hospital Wing, the second in the Elders’ Bathroom.

Studying the Alohomora spell

The caretaker will teach you the Alohomora spell. Complete the standard mini-game to master the spell. Important feature: Alohomora is a basic spell and does not require a separate slot — it is always available automatically.

How the hacking mini-game works

The mechanics may seem unfamiliar at first. Your task is to rotate both sets of gears until a reaction occurs, and then hold them in the desired position.

Lock the left stick in the position where the gears light up green. Without releasing it, do the same with the right stick until you see a red reaction. Hold both positions for a couple of seconds — the lock will open.

Search for semi-visible statues

After breaking down the door, immediately activate the Discoloration spell. Behind the door is a patrol zone for elders, who should be avoided.

The Way to the Bathroom Elders

Climb the stairs, using Revelio to detect patrols. On the first floor, you will notice a door with an arithmetic puzzle—you can solve it now. To distract the head boy, aim at the far corner and use Basic Cast.

The next flight of stairs requires caution: keep to the right, bypassing the two elders in the left corner. Take the spiral staircase to the locked door on the first level on the right—this is the entrance to the Elders’ Bathroom.

Open the lock with Alohomora. Inside, move along the right wall, avoiding the guards. The statue of the half-visibility is at the far end of the room.

The Way to the Hospital Wing

Exit the bathroom and continue up the spiral staircase. You will find yourself at the fast travel point for the Hospital Wing. Turn left and carefully sneak past the nurse and professor near one of the beds. The second statue is on the table at the far end of the room.

Completion of the quest

Collect both Half-Moon Moons and return to Gladwin Moon the same way you came, avoiding the elders. The caretaker will accept your loot and promise to teach you enhanced versions of Alohomora in exchange for further help in collecting statues.
