Important: This quest is only available to students of the Hufflepuff House. Players from other houses have an alternative quest — see the section “The Ghost of Richard Jackdo.”

The plot centers on a mysterious murder that happened many years ago and an attempt to restore justice.

Start of the quest: Eldritch Diggory’s letter and portrait

Warning note about dugbog sighting held outdoors

Owl post will deliver a message to you from Lenora Everly. The letter says that a certain portrait in Puffenduy’s living room wishes to speak with you. It is Eldrich Diggory, the former Minister of Magic.

Go to the faculty lounge. The portrait is located to the left of the entrance. Diggory will offer you a deal: help him solve an old murder case, and in return he will tell you where to find the missing pages from the book you found. According to him, these pages can exonerate a man who was wrongfully convicted.

For more details, Diggory will refer you to his grandniece, Helen Thistlewood, who lives in Upper Hogsfield.

Conversation with Helen Thistlewood

At Helen’s cottage, you will learn the details of what happened:

FactDetails
MissingRichard Jackdo is a young man who went to meet a girl named Ann
DiscoveryShortly after his disappearance, he was seen as a headless ghost
AccusedAnne was sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban
EvidenceA dubious alibi involving the theft of pages from Pivey, and the testimony of Apollonia Black

Helen is certain that Ann, despite her years of imprisonment, was able to solve the riddles Jackdo left for her before his death. It is necessary to visit Azkaban and speak with the prisoner in person.

Visit to Azkaban

Gray-haired woman walking through smoky corridor with lights

By agreeing to accompany Helen, you will be transported directly to the prison. The Dementors attack almost instantly, but Helen drives them away with the Expettor Patronum spell.

Walk down the hallway to Ann’s cell. She will tell you some important information: Jackdo has hidden something valuable in a storage facility located in the ruins near Upper Hogsfield.

Before leaving, Ann suddenly attacks Helen, wounding her. You both apparate back to Upper Hogsfield, where the wounded Helen asks you to continue the search on your own and disappears.

From the arrival point, head down the hill. After passing the dam, you will find the entrance to a small cave.

The room contains several levers that can be pulled with the Actio spell. The mechanism works according to a specific principle — only some levers remain extended after activation. An error resets all levers to their original position.

Solution: Use Revelio — the necessary levers will light up blue. Pull them with Accio, and the passage will open.

In the next room, look in the left corner right by the entrance. There is a scroll on the pedestal — “Jackdo’s Clue.” Take it.

Encounter with the Ghost of Richard Jackdo

Ghostly man speaks to student in forest clearing

After leaving the vault, you will encounter the ghost of Richard Jackdo. A conversation will ensue, during which you will exchange information: you will tell him about Anne’s fate, and he will tell you his story.

Jackdo intends to meet with Helen to discuss the possibility of Ann’s rehabilitation. Finally, the ghost informs you that the missing pages of the book are probably somewhere near his body, deep in the Forbidden Forest. He is willing to help you find them.

This concludes the quest “Prisoner of Love.”
