Upon returning to the Red City at the start of Chapter 4, you’ll head to the docks this time. Follow Lucas until you encounter guards blocking the city. When you get back inside, descend the stone staircases until you reach the shoreline. Here you’ll discover a flower for Hugo.
Navigating the Docks
Turn around and make your way up to the docks. Crouch and carefully sneak past enemies along the only available route. Move past crates and barrels, climb the ladder, and you’ll find a hatch at the end that needs opening.
First Memory Location
Before opening the hatch, turn around and pass through the hole in the wooden wall between two barrels. You’ll find a cart that can be pushed to another part of the room. Use it to climb to the upper section where you’ll discover a memory you can interact with.
Underground Area Strategy
After collecting the memory, return to the hatch and descend. Two soldiers stand ahead, and you need to reach the upper area beyond them. First, grab the knife stuck in an object at the center of the location. Then head left under the staircase. At the end of this path, you’ll find a chest and an enemy with his back turned. Time your movement carefully, look right, and climb to the upper level. Crawl under the wooden beams on the right side.
Dealing with the Rat Infestation
Rats will appear in the next area. You’ll learn how to ignite tar, which creates a large fire and allows passage to the next light source. Light the brazier cart, but don’t rush forward yet—there’s a secret chest nearby.
Secret Chest Location
When rats appear in the docks, locate the cart with the lit brazier. Instead of pushing it forward immediately, look left to spot a passage leading to stairs. Push the cart in that direction, climb up, and open the secret chest. Remember, you’ll need the knife to open it.
Return to the cart and push it forward this time. Once you’ve positioned the cart in a safe spot, proceed to the next area. To reach the building, extinguish the fire on the right side, then shoot the hanging fish to distract the rats.
Tar Puzzle Solution
The room you enter will eventually fill with rats, requiring you to use tar. Start by opening the door behind you by hitting the chain beyond the barrier. Use the handle so Lucas can jump onto the platform. Return to the main zone and ignite the tar.
Lucas will throw ingredients for creating tar. Craft several portions, then toss them into the round basin ahead using the pot. Ignite the tar with an Ignifer shot from your sling. Light another basin and reunite with Lucas. Use the door at the top of the stairs.
Second Memory – “Grain of Sand”
Proceed through the rat-free area, but don’t rush through the breach just yet. There’s another memory nearby. After sneaking into another part of the workshop and running across the bridge destroyed by rats, look right before the gap to find a chain you can break with a sling shot. At the end of the pier, you’ll find the “Grain of Sand” memory.
Advanced Tar Puzzle
After collecting the memory, return to the main path and squeeze through the gap to encounter another tar puzzle. This time, a guard is present. Use the handle to pour tar, then ignite it. Have Lucas use the other handle on your side, and the platform will move to the next section.
When the platform stops, tell Lucas to step away from the handle. The platform will return to position, allowing you to pour tar into the basin, granting access to a new area and opening the path to the central platform. Once it fully rises, command Lucas to use the handle again. The platform will move forward.
Platform Coordination
As the platform passes you, release your handle and have Lucas do the same. The platform will stop, positioning you to pour tar into the basin below and light it. Now help Lucas cross to your side. Switch to your sling with tar and shoot the fire closest to Lucas. He’ll run to the middle section—at this moment, use the nearest handle to raise the boat blocking his path.
After reuniting with Lucas, you’ll spot a guard nearby. When he sees you, extinguish his torch, letting the rats finish him.
Workbench and Final Section
The next room contains a workbench. If you have enough resources, perform several upgrades. After the following cutscene, you need to reach Joseph’s ship located further downriver. A fairly complex puzzle awaits with multiple guards to hide from and rats to avoid.
Start by hiding in tall grass and using houses as cover. Turn around and extinguish a soldier’s torch as he walks past the rats. Eventually, you’ll reach a location with a large bonfire at the center, surrounded by patrolling guards.
Stealth Strategy
Use the tall grass again to hide and eliminate all guards without helmets. Taking the high ground on the left where the archer stands is recommended. It’s easier to remain undetected there, and there’s enough tall grass on the other side to sneak through.
Sneak past or eliminate the final enemy, open the door beyond the bridge, and you’ll soon reach a safe area with a workbench. Approach Jordan to trigger a cutscene.
Escaping the Red City
The chapter concludes with an escape from the rats destroying the Red City. You’ll easily determine where to turn, and when you reach the house, you’ll see Beatrice with Hugo. Follow Joseph to his ship to complete the chapter.
