The opening chapter begins deep underground as you follow your companion Gaetano through the mine tunnels. When he signals, examine the debris blocking your path before continuing forward. After climbing over a fallen log, check the right wall where you’ll spot the “Mine Decommissioned” note hanging—grab it for your collection.

A cutscene plays out, after which you emerge onto the surface. Place the stone-filled basket at the designated spot, then make your way uphill. You’ll notice a column of smoke rising on the horizon. Turn right and locate the Shrine of Saint Barbara nearby. Offer a prayer here to claim the “Saint Barbara” collectible card.

Gathering Documents

As you approach Ignacio’s kitchen area, examine the building on your right side. The “Additional Shifts” notice is posted on the exterior wall. Now turn around and look back toward where you came from. In the distance, where workers are gathered near a blocked passage, you’ll find the “Portrait of Il Merlo” note lying on the ground.

Infiltrating the Storage Facility

When you’re ready to proceed, interact with the kitchen to trigger another cutscene. Descend the path ahead and crouch using the C key. Cross the road toward the crate-filled area. Press CTRL to take cover behind a crate and wait for the guards to move away from their posts.

Once clear, vault over the crate and navigate between the cargo containers ahead. On a barrel to your left sits the “Newspaper: Tension Among Shareholders” document.

Gaetano creates a distraction, drawing the next guard away from his position. Enter the building and retrieve the knife embedded in the table—you’ll need it to pick the locked door. Inside this room, collect two important documents: the “Letter from the Board of Directors” on the left side and the “Delivery Invoice — Policardo Supplies” on the right. Take the bread from the marked crate, then press Spacebar to climb through the window and exit the storage area.

Tip: Make your way back to the kitchen area before entering the barracks.

Return to the kitchen vicinity. A note titled “Ration Cuts” rests on the cart to your left. Another leaflet can be found on the left side just before the barracks entrance. Step inside the barracks to watch the next cutscene.

Underground Escape

Back in the mine, descend deeper and pick up the lantern to light your way. The “New Deposits in the Eastern Mine” document sits on a stand to your left. Climb over the wooden beams, drop down to the lower level, and crawl through the narrow tunnel passage.

Along the route, you’ll encounter:

  • A ladder requiring inspection
  • Empty water containers to examine
  • A slope leading downward

Slide down the incline and collect “Katarina’s Letter” at the bottom.

Continue forward until you discover the bodies of fallen miners. A cutscene triggers, and suddenly you’re fleeing for your life. Sprint along the single available path, jumping over obstacles as the tunnel collapses behind you.

Combat Tutorial and Finale

Upon reaching the surface, you face your first knife fight. The game teaches you three fundamental combat moves before the actual encounter begins with visible health bars. Execute the techniques you’ve learned until the next cutscene interrupts the battle.

Sprint toward the horse when prompted, mount up, and ride forward as fast as you can. The opening credits roll—your prologue journey concludes here.
