The University is the eighth chapter where Joel and Ellie search for Fireflies on horseback. The chapter includes campus exploration, generator puzzles, infected encounters, laboratory investigation, and a bandit ambush that seriously injures Joel. Complete all areas to discover the Fireflies relocated to Salt Lake City.

The entrance area contains a comic book, workbench, flamethrower, and balcony note. The horse is named Callus and must be dismounted at the overturned car.

How to Navigate the Courtyard on Horseback?

The courtyard requires jumping wire fences on horseback while collecting a Firefly pendant from a tree. A large banner and mirrored building serve as landmarks.

1. Jump wire fence barriers on horseback.
2. Examine large banner on left building (conversation 31).
3. Stop in right dead end with tower buildings.
4. Examine right tree for Firefly pendant (20).
5. Ride toward mirrored building in distance.
6. Dismount and enter building with large passage.
7. Pass through chain-link door inside.

How to Restore Power in the Fire Section?

The fire section requires following a yellow wire to reach a generator on the second floor. Six infected in the generator room can be lured together and killed with a Molotov.

How to Clear the Spore Zone?

The spore zone contains infected, clickers, and one Bloater. Flamethrower ammo is abundant throughout the area. Killing the Bloater yields a Firefly pendant.

2. Roll generator from opposite side.
3. Connect generator.
4. Start generator.

What Items Are in the Lower Gate Camp?

The lower gate camp contains tents with supplies and a Firefly pendant. A red trash can must be rolled down the hill to break open the gates.

How to Survive the Bandit Ambush?

Bandits arrive on the street after discovering the Fireflies left. Joel is attacked, falls onto rebar, and must fight while injured until Ellie helps him escape.

1. Door opens on balcony.
2. Bandit rushes out and chokes Joel.
3. Resist choking attack.
4. Fall with bandit onto rebar below.
5. Shoot 2 bandits while lying down injured.
6. Ellie helps Joel stand.
7. Follow Ellie while losing consciousness repeatedly.
8. Hide behind desk and shoot 1 enemy.
9. Reach exit while barely conscious.
10. Climb onto horse to escape.

Chapter conclusion: Joel is critically injured on rebar. Ellie must help him escape the university while he fades in and out of consciousness. The Fireflies have relocated to Salt Lake City.
