Walkthrough of the “Zlatko” chapter in Detroit: Become Human

The chapter begins with Kara and Alice arriving at Zlatko’s house. Open the gate and walk to the front door. After talking to the owner of the house, the action will move to the living room, and then Zlatko will take you to the basement.

Basement laboratory — liberation from the machine

On the way down, Alice will express concern—you can reassure her. You will pass by cages with androids and find yourself in a laboratory, where Zlatko will ask you to stand on the platform of a special machine.

After activating the device, the perspective will switch to first-person view. You will have less than a minute to escape before your memory is reset:

First step: Look up and to the right—you will see two cables. Grab the green wire and perform a QTE action to knock over the thermos containing ethanol.

Step 2: Look down and to the left at the red cart. Kick it (QTE) to knock over the work lamp. The lamp will fall into the ethanol, causing a short circuit and a chain reaction that will stop the machine.

Return upstairs to the house. As you pass the cages, you can open one of them and go inside—this will unlock an additional scenario later on.

Searching for Alice and exploring the house

Upon reaching the top, Kara will notice Luther heading toward the second floor. You have limited time to locate Alice.

The Room with the Bear-Android

Go up to the second floor and enter the room next to the one Luther and Zlatko entered (the entrance is blocked). Inside, there is an android bear in a cage. Approach and interact with the cage — this will unlock it and activate an important scenario for further events.

Bathroom

Go through the door at the end of the room (not the one leading to the main staircase). In the bathroom, you will find an android in the bathtub who will try to raise the alarm. Approach him and ask him where Alice is — he doesn’t know. Select the “Negotiate” option so that the android does not betray you to Zlatko, then spare him.

Zlatko’s Room

When you leave the bathroom, you will see Luther near Zlatko’s room. Inside, there is a shotgun and a magazine on the table. Go through this room and the next door to find yourself in a corridor next to where Alice is hiding. When Zlatko asks Luther to bring Alice, use the hint to hide.

Running away from home

Head to Zlatko’s room. If you don’t hide, Luther will spot you and start chasing you. In this case, you will have to perform a sequence of button presses to avoid being captured.

During the escape, Kara will throw objects at Luther. Then Zlatko will appear with a shotgun — press the prompts to dodge the shots.

Continue following the commands on the screen. Kara will break the window to escape with Alice. When the heroine hides from Zlatko, perform the following series of actions and move towards the main entrance. When choosing a direction, run towards the entrance door.

At the climax, Zlatko and Luther almost catch up with the fugitives, but Luther rebels against his master. He takes Zlatko’s shotgun and points it at him. The previously freed androids come out and deal with Zlatko. After a short conversation between Kara and Luther, the chapter ends.

The role of the android bear

The bear’s release opens up two possible scenarios:

Option 1 — Rescue: If you freed the bear and later chose to sneak away through the pantry, but Zlatko spotted you, the bear will attack the homeowner and rescue Kara. Unfortunately, the bear will die.

Option 2 — Arson: If you freed the bear but decided to set the house on fire (you can take a burning log from the fireplace and start a fire), in the final scene of the chapter you will see the bear happily walking away from the burning building.

Alternative route: reset Kara’s memory

There is another way to complete this chapter. When Kara and Alice arrive at the house, open the gate and ring the doorbell twice. Zlatko will invite you inside and convince Kara to remove the tracker, after which you will have to go down to the basement.

When Alice expresses her bad feeling, respond that you will be CAREFUL. Alice will stop in front of one of the cells — choose the option to REASSURE her and remember this location.

Zlatko will ask you to get into a suspicious car. Agree, and he will reveal his true intentions. When Kara is left alone, do nothing—wait for the memory wipe to complete.

Recovering memories

After resetting your memory, open the cage where Alice was standing. Return to the living room and begin restoring Kara’s memory:

  • Look at the mirror near the stairs to the basement.
  • Examine the coat by the front door
  • In the living room, take the tray with food and bring it to Zlatko’s room upstairs
  • Place the tray on the designated table, then pick up the android’s remains from the floor
  • Take them to the pantry and free the bear from its cage.
  • Go to the door behind you and check the red ice tube on the dresser on the left
  • Go through the bathroom into the hallway.
  • Enter the bedroom on the left and find the magazine (you cannot interact with the shotgun yet)

You can go down to the living room and examine the table by the sofa to refresh your memory, or stay on the second floor and go into the large room. There, check the fireplace and turn on the TV. Warning: watching the news will lower public opinion.

Escape after regaining memory

Once your memory has been restored, return to the hallway and enter the room ahead where Alice is located. For a clean escape, proceed as follows:

Enter the door on the right to find yourself in a large room. Ignore the prompt to hide under the table and run to the bedroom. Hide under the bed and stay there until Zlatko picks up the shotgun and leaves the room.

Go out into the hallway and quickly hide in the bathroom when Luther appears. Then move to the storage room.

Zlatko always catches up with you here, so just avoid him until you get close to the exit. Turn the camera to the left and move to the next cover. Stay there until Zlatko starts talking to Luther. The big man will turn away, allowing you to reach the next safe zone.

Quickly hide behind the furniture directly in front of you. Turn the camera to the left and move toward the table when Zlatko’s flashlight is pointed in the other direction.

The bear that was freed earlier will stop Zlatko when he approaches Kara’s location, and the chase will continue in the corridor. When the choice appears, run to the back door. The chapter will end after Luther joins Kara and Alice.
