Kailok the Hornsplitter, leader of the goblin merchants, is the first true skill check in Crimson Desert. Infused with Abyssal power, he is fast, hits like a truck, and requires more than just button mashing to defeat.

Before you step into the arena, remember: Pywel rewards the prepared. Refine your weapons with mined ores and stock up on cooked meals at local butchers and grocers.

Phase 1: Mastering Defensive Tactics

Kailok’s move set is designed to punish players who stay on the offensive for too long.

  • The Perfect Parry: Kailok’s light attacks are highly telegraphed. Time your block right before impact to execute a parry. This is the fastest way to open him up for a high-damage counter-attack.
  • Ranged Energy Cones: When Kailok backs away, he is preparing a magical cone attack from his blade. Hold the dodge button to perform a combat roll. A simple sidestep (tapping dodge) will likely get caught in the blast radius.
  • Learning Evasive Roll: During this encounter, you will unlock the Evasive Roll ability. This allows you to break out of enemy combos if you miss a parry. It’s your “get out of jail free” card to avoid being stunlocked.

Phase 2: High-Damage Combos & Animation Cancels

To melt Kailok’s health, you need to use animation canceling—a mechanic that separates the amateurs from the pros in Crimson Desert.

The “Pump Kick” Loop

If you learned the Pump Kick (Hold Y / Triangle) from the previous boss, now is the time to abuse it.

  1. Initiate a Heavy Combo with R2 / RT.
  2. In the middle of the swing, Hold Y / Triangle.
  3. Kliff will skip the long charge-up animation and flow directly into the double kick.
  4. This deals massive damage and keeps Kailok on the defensive without leaving you vulnerable.

The Leg Sweep

If you need to buy time:

  • Perform a Dodge followed immediately by an Unarmed Melee Attack (Y / Triangle).
  • Kliff will perform a sweep, knocking Kailok off his feet.
  • Follow up with a Ground Stab (RB / R1) for critical damage.

The Climax: Stance Breaking

Keep up the pressure until you hear a sharp metallic “Clang.” This indicates that Kailok’s Stance Gauge (the yellow bar under his health) has broken. In this state, he is completely vulnerable—unload your strongest Spirit abilities and combos immediately.

Reward: The Sword of the Lord

Upon victory, you will loot the Sword of the Lord. This isn’t just a trophy; it’s a top-tier one-handed weapon with a built-in Abyss Core.

  • Special Ability: Wind Slash.
  • How to Trigger: This ranged magical attack automatically activates at the end of an RB / R1 combo, after a jumping attack, or when landing a light attack directly after a dodge. It essentially gives Kliff the same ranged pressure Kailok used against you.
