While exploring the ruins of the Raccoon City Police Department (RPD) in Resident Evil 9: Requiem, you’re bound to come across several encrypted messages. They were left by none other than Barry Burton—a veteran from the original Resident Evil. Barry loved to devise challenges for young recruits, and now Leon has a chance to solve his final puzzle.

Barry’s clues are quite confusing, but if you figure them out, you’ll get the JoJo Locker Key for the West Office. In this guide, we’ll walk you through exactly where to find all the clues, how to get the key, and what cool Easter egg from Capcom you’ll receive in return.

Step 1: Where to find Barry’s clues in the S.T.A.R.S. office

Important: To progress through the quest, you must find both clues. Without them, the required item simply won’t appear at the location. Even if you found them in previous playthroughs, you’ll need to collect them again in the current run.

Both photos are hidden in the S.T.A.R.S. Office:

First hint: As soon as you enter the room, look to your right. There is a photograph in the open cabinet. It shows a TV with an American flag hanging below it. In the corner of the TV, there is a circle with the word “Here” written inside.

Second hint: Go to the back of the room. There is a leather jacket hanging between the tables—interact with it to find the second photo. It shows a school blackboard with a TV hanging above it, and an American flag visible in the lower left corner.

If you flip both photos, you’ll see a message from Barry himself: “Have fun solving this, kids! – Barry.”

Step 2: How to Get the JoJo Locker Key

Once you’ve collected both photos, go down to the lower floor and head to the Operations Room. This is where the scene from the photos is located: the hanging TVs, the flag, and the board.

On the right side of the room, take a look at the suspicious pile of pallets.

Walk up to them to make the “Climb Up” action button appear.

Reminder: If you didn’t pick up both hints at the S.T.A.R.S. office, you won’t be able to interact with the crates.

Once you’ve climbed up, look around the area near the hanging TV. There you’ll find the JoJo Locker Key.

Fun fact: The key’s name is a direct reference to the cult anime and manga series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, for which we have Hideki Kamiya to thank.

Step 3: Achievements and Capcom’s Secret Easter Egg

Now that you have the key, return to the West Office and open the locked locker. Inside, you’ll find a whole set of great rewards:

“S.T.A.R.S. Emblem” Charm: This useful accessory increases the firepower of any automatic weapon it is attached to. However, be careful: it also increases barrel recoil when aiming.

Two tickets to Raccoon City Zoo: Attached to the tickets is a note: “Enjoy! And don’t say I never gave you anything! – Barry.” A great reminder that the gruff Barry Burton always had a kind heart.

An Easter egg for Capcom fans

If you take a close look inside the open cabinet, you’ll notice an incredibly heartfelt detail. Inside hangs a Street Fighter Alpha poster, and next to it lies a dusty game console with a stack of classic Capcom games. Among them, you can spot cartridges for Resident Evil, Street Fighter Alpha 2, and Mega Man 3. It’s the perfect fan service for the studio’s loyal fans!
