If you purchased Resident Evil: Requiem Deluxe Edition or downloaded the Deluxe Kit add-on, an exclusive side quest—the “Letters from 1998” search—will appear in your game.

This quest consists of five notes that shed light on a previously unknown aspect of the tragedy in Raccoon City. You must find them in strict order. Upon successfully completing the quest, you will receive an extremely useful R.P.D. weapon charm. Below is a complete step-by-step guide to finding each note.

Where to Find All of Meryl’s Letters in RE9 Requiem

Letter 1: From Meryl to Mommy

  • Location: The Applegate Hotel

The very first note can be found almost at the very beginning of Leon’s journey through Raccoon City—inside the Applegate Hotel. The letter was written by a little girl named Meryl, who found herself in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. In the text, she mentions that she’s planning to head to a gas station. That’s exactly where we need to go next.

Letter 2: From Meryl to Mommy 2

  • Location: Gas Station

Head to the gas station. Be careful: as soon as you pass the zombie that lunges at you from the floor, check the shelves. The letter is there. In this note, the story takes a darker turn, and the girl becomes increasingly frightened. Leon begins to realize that Meryl is the daughter of Lieutenant Marvin Brana, who turned into a zombie during the events of Resident Evil 2. The letter states that Meryl met a police officer named George, and they are heading to the police station together. Spoiler: they won’t make it there.

Letter 3: From Meryl to Mommy 3

  • Location: Wrecked car behind Gun Shop Kendo

Walk past the Kendo store and look at the wrecked car. The third letter is lying right on the dashboard. From the text, we learn that Meryl did meet her father after all. However, Marvin already knew he was infected and didn’t let his daughter near him to save her. Officer George, confused by what’s happening, suggests that Meryl sneak into the police station through the underground parking garage. Let’s follow them!

Letter 4: From Meryl to Mommy 4

  • Location: Underground Parking Garage entrance

To find this letter, you’ll need to head back a bit from Kendo’s store toward the parking lot entrance. The note is located in the back of yet another wrecked car. As fans will recall from Resident Evil 2, the parking lot is a creepy place teeming with mutants. Meryl realizes this and writes that she’s running back to “Mr. Kendo’s store.” (Fun fact: it’s amazing how this girl found the time to write letters while running from a horde of zombies!)

Letter 5: The Finale and Receiving the Award

  • Location: Alley to the rear right of Gun Shop Kendo

Go back to the gun shop and enter the alley behind it (on the right side). As you approach, you’ll notice a pair of small children’s shoes—this is a sign that you’ve collected all the previous clues correctly.

The fifth letter itself will be completely blank. However, next to it you will find the quest’s main reward—the R.P.D. Charm.

What does the R.P.D. keychain do? It’s a gift from Marvin to his daughter. When attached to a weapon, it increases Leon’s firepower when his health is critically low (when he’s about to die). A great bonus for surviving on higher difficulty levels!
