In Resident Evil 9: Requiem, exploring the West Wing can be a real challenge, especially when you encounter the terrifying Chef Zombie. However, defeating him isn’t just a matter of survival—it’s the only way to reach the Pantry, where unique items for Grace and Leon are hidden.

Where to Find the Pantry Key

According to in-game files, the key to the pantry is held by the cook himself. You will encounter this enemy in the corridors of the West Wing near the Parlor after passing through the Kitchen for the first time.

Important for Insanity mode: In this mode, the chef leaves behind Antique Coins. The Key to the Pantry itself will be hidden behind the Level 1 access door leading to the Closet in the East Wing waiting room.

How to Defeat the Zombie Chef: Strategies

The Cook is a dangerous and resilient opponent, but Grace has two effective ways to take him down:

  1. Hemolytic Injector — Best Choice: The first injector can be found in the Examination Room. Later, you can craft them in the Blood Lab using Infected Blood.
    • Tactics: Sneak up behind the cook and use the injector. This guarantees an instant kill (one-shot kill) and saves a lot of ammo.
  2. Leon’s Requiem: If you don’t have an injector, you can use the powerful “Requiem.” Ammo for it is extremely scarce, but the cook is a worthy target for such an expense.

Victory Reward: As soon as the chef falls, you can pick up the Pantry Key from his body, and you’ll earn the “Order Up!” achievement/trophy.

Open the storeroom to access valuable resources:

Infected Blood: Required for crafting.

Ammo: Including the scarce charge for “Requiem.”

“Stakeout Takeout” Talisman: While in your inventory, your knife’s attack power and durability are increased.

Secret for Leon: Warped Closet

In the storeroom, there is an object that Grace cannot interact with—the Distorted Cabinet. You’ll have to return here later while playing as Leon. Hidden inside is the Connoisseur Charm. This unique accessory can be equipped on any firearm to significantly increase damage.
